Driving to Heathrow Airport

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Heathrow Airport is south west of London, about 15 miles from the centre. To get there follow the M4 from Chiswick and at junction 4 follow signs to your destination terminal. Before driving a car or motorbike to London Heathrow Airport, you should check with the AA or other mapping and route service for traffic accident updates or roadworks that might affect your journey time. For more informationto help you plan a trip to the airport, visit the following website: www.theaa.com. Their onlineRoute Planner will help you to find alternative routes through traffic. You can even set it to avoid motorways or toll roads. Print out a map and directions and off you go. Alternatively use your satnav, but be aware that terminal 5 roads seem to change pretty regularly at the moment.

Parking at Heathrow Airport

Heathrow has short term and long term parking areas close to the terminals. However, these are expensive so it is best to follow some simple rules.

Firstly, if you choose short term parking make sure it really is short term. Stay for more than a few hours and the parking costs add significantly to your total bill for the trip. Really not cheap at all.

Secondly, if you are staying for a few days, consider the private heathrow parking companies. They are based outside the airport perimiter, but will shuttle you in on private busses. The cost is typically 40% less than on-airport parking.
